Charles Atkinson was born and schooled in Massachusetts and served as a teacher in the Peace Corps for two years in the Philippines. He was on the staff of Hampshire College for its opening years, and completed a Ph.D at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he went on to teach writing of various sorts for thirty years. He’s published three full-length volumes of poetry, and four poetry chapbooks, most of them prize-winners. He has two sons and three grandchildren, all of whom he adores, as he does his daughters-in-law. He sometimes contributes to outdoor workshops led by his wife, Sarah Rabkin, in spectacular locations around the West. Otherwise, they live together by the redwoods near Monterey Bay.
