Joanna Priestley has produced and directed a feature, North of Blue, and 27 short films about subjects dear to her heart: abstraction, relationships, botany, menopause and prison. Her work maintains a high level of porosity between serious exploration of boundaries and intuitive whimsy and she is dedicated to experimentation in technique, theme and content. Priestley has had retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art (New York), British Film Institute (London), Center for Contemporary Art (Warsaw), REDCAT (Los Angeles), Stuttgart Animation Festival (Germany), Masters of Animation Festival (Thiruvananthapuram, India) and the American Cinematheque (Los Angeles) and have shown on PBS (USA) and BBC2 (UK). Priestley has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Film Institute, the MacDowell Colony, Fundación Valparaíso and Creative Capital. Priestley was founding president of ASIFA Northwest and she is a medicinal herbalist who loves the forest. Her films are available at www.primopix.com.
