Learn to image the night sky, hands-on with an expert Astro-photographer in one of the darkest locations in the United States. During the first session you will learn how to set up and use your digital camera and that night you will capture breathtaking Milky Way nightscapes with the instructor. The second session will cover how to process your images in Photoshop. Instruction will be given while you use your own laptop to edit your own images. After seeing your results you’ll have a second nighttime session to expand on what you’ve learned.

This workshop starts Friday evening with a socially distanced, communal dinner and presentation. Lunch will be provided Saturday and Sunday. All other meals are on your own. A workshop syllabus will be shared with participants 3 weeks before workshop start date.

DSLR or Mirrorless Digital Camera
Laptop with Photoshop
Tripod
Red light – headlamp preferred
OPTIONAL – Sky tracker for longer exposures

Instructor Bio:
Kevin Morefield is an award winning, Portland based astro-photographer published in science journals, online, and in print magazines.  He specializes in deep-sky astrophotography via his Sierra Mountains based observatory and uses smaller telescopes and cameras to capture eclipses and the night sky around the world. COVID Safety:
PLAYA is doing all it can to keep its guests and staff safe with COVID. PLAYA is naturally spacious which easily allows guests to follow 6’ distancing guidelines. Sanitation procedures will be strictly followed and programming will be conducted outdoors as much as possible. Masks will be required for any indoor programming with 6’ distances between participants. Some indoor spaces on campus may be closed to visitors.
