After high school, self-taught Oregon bassist/vocalist TR Kelley toured with a series of hotel cover bands in genres ranging from hard country to jazz standards, as both a job and a valuable apprenticeship. A small career as an original singer-songwriter followed, with CDs, festivals, airplay, and a song in the Smithsonian Folkways collection. After the 2017 release of her latest project, the concept album “The Raventones -Much More Black”, TR began working on new ideas for bass and baritone guitar that evoke tectonic forces and the vast landscapes of the American West. Influenced by bass virtuoso Michael Manring, ambient artist Steve Roach and the writings of John Steinbeck, the new works have sparse vocals and minimal beats.
