Cynthia Camlin’s work explores environmental and geological change through abstracted forms. The ghostly architecture of bleached coral in paintings begun in 2016 evokes the rapid withering of ocean life. “Bloom” is an ongoing series of paintings that revel in the fertility of growing reef systems. Many of these underwater compositions were started at Playa in July 2017. The fecund pond with its algae, coots and dragonflies provided color references each morning for Camlin’s multilayered experiments with paint and process.
