PLAYA Treads Lightly

PLAYA’s solar array harvests the sun’s energy to provide hot water and heat to the Commons and Garden House buildings.

Fresh, clean linens are provided to all residents by PLAYA staff and the sun’s energy.

PLAYA’s recognition as a ‘Dark Sky Sanctuary’ is in part due to our shielded, downward projecting, exterior, night lighting.  All of these lights were designed and built on-site.

PLAYA encourages the use of hand pushcarts in lieu of motorized carts whenever possible for residents and staff around the campus.

PLAYA encourages residents to spend time out-of-doors walking or riding a bicycle on the campus maintained trail system.

PLAYA encourages residents and staff to arrive together via carpool.  If arriving from the Redmond airport or Bend area, EnviroShuttle is a great option.  Of course, non-motorized travel and commuting is ALWAYS encouraged among residents and staff!

PLAYA’s food waste and landscaping debris are woven back into the fabric of our re-emerging garden.

Of course, PLAYA recycles everything that can be properly handled in DeChutes county and Oregon.
