Cabins & Studios
Cabins 4, 5 & 6
Cabins 4, 5 & 6 are part of the southern trio of cabins with unobstructed views of the playa. They are one-bedroom cabins with ample living and dining areas which include a full kitchen. These three cabins have the same layout and almost identical furnishings with a few small differences between the three. The bedrooms have a queen sized bed and a walk-in closet. The living rooms each have a couch that folds into a bed. There is a large writing/work desk in the living room as well as a small art and writing studio off of the bedroom (only non-toxic materials allowed). This space is great for writing, non-messy illustration, and/or photography and video work. The bathroom includes a toilet, sink, and shower. These cabins each have a private wrap-around deck with expansive views of the playa and the surrounding mountains.
Cabins 8 & 9
Cabins 8 & 9 are part of the northern trio of cabins. They are studio cabins with an open living concept. These cabins include a dining area, a kitchenette and queen-sized bed. Cabin 9 has a dorm-style fridge; Cabin 8 has a full-sized fridge. Bathrooms have showers only. Each cabin includes a wrap around deck with views of the pond and a work desk for writing, non-messy illustration, and/or photography and video work (only non-toxic materials allowed). The bathroom includes a toilet, sink, and shower.
Cabin #10
Cabin #10 is a two-bedroom, two-bath cabin that is part of the northern trio of cabins. This cabin includes ample living and dining areas along with a full kitchen. Each bedroom has a queen sized bed and ensuite bathroom with toilet, sink and showers. There are 2 decks accessible through each bedroom and each has a desk for writing, non-messy illustration or video work (only non-toxic materials allowed).
Diablo & Wildcat cabins/studios
Diablo and Wildcat are loft style townhouse cabins that are closest to the main Commons lodge. They both are live/work cabins with attached art studios. Each includes a loft bedroom with a full-sized bed, kitchenette, dining and living areas. The kitchenettes include dorm-sized refrigerators and countertop convection ovens and hotplates for cooking. Diablo includes a fold-out full sized futon in the living room and Wildcat includes a twin daybed in the living area. The bathroom includes a toilet, sink, and shower. The attached art studios include ample wall space, tables, sinks and views of the PLAYA pond.
Wildcat is our only ADA cabin and studio option. Wildcat Cabin dimensions:

Please be advised that the Commons building and the Wildcat Cabin/Studio do not have automatic doors.
Garden House, Poppy and currant Rooms
The Garden House is a two-bedroom cabin next to the Commons and the PLAYA garden. It has a spacious kitchen with views of Slide Moutnain, dining area, a cozy living room with a wood stove and large bathroom (toilet, sink and shower/bath) with a washer and dryer. Poppy room is the south-facing bedroom with a queen bed, closet and built-in bookshelf. Currant Room faces north and has a queen bed, dresser and closet.
Studios
PLAYA has studios to accommodate printmaking, dance, music composition, visual and video arts, and certain areas of scientific research – and must be booked ahead of time to use them.
Studios are equipped with worktables, chairs, stools, a utility sink, cabinets, shelving, and track lighting. Blinds allow individuals to control the amount of outside light. Several walls in each studio are covered in fiberboard; nails, staples, etc., and metal stripping for use with magnets, may be used to hang work-in-progress on these surfaces.
Standard, stocked items for each studio are cloth rags, stepladder, easel, disposal bins and individual toolkits including basic tools (hammer, tape measure, box cutter, level, nails/brads, pushpins, ruler, pliers/wirecutter, scissors, screw driver). Heavy-duty extension cords are available on request. A few easels and additional worktables are also available upon request. Upon arrival, PLAYA staff will orient each artist on proper hazardous waste disposal.
Residents are urged to bring an adequate stock of materials and supplies for their session. If you need a specific tool or piece of equipment on a continual basis, please bring your own. If ordering supplies to PLAYA, UPS delivers promptly.

Sandhill
Large studio for printmaking, book arts, and visual arts.
The largest studio space on campus houses presses, large tables and a sink. With a ceiling that is nearly 18′ high, the studio is 22′ x 22′. Sandhill has large wall spaces in which work can be pinned or hung on the metal magnet strip . Tables and presses are all moveable and the south-facing studio garage door can be opened for more light. There are additional windows high on the the northern wall. Water-soluble inks only.

Avocet
Multi-purpose visual art studio.
Avocet studio is in the same building as Sandhill studio and connected by a private door. Avocet has windows that face north, east and south, and a glass door that faces north. This studio has a large wall to work on and pin items to, a sink and two large moveable tables. The ceiling is slanted with a height of 11′ and is approximately 13′ x 22′.
Petroglyph Studio
Multi-purpose visual art studio.
Petroglyph studio can be accessed from the porch of cabin #10. It is attached to cabin #10, but is private in that there is a closet and breezeway thast buffers sound from cabin #10. This studio has three windows that face east, south and west. It is approximately 10′ x 20′ with a 12′ ceiling. It has a closet with a sink, walls for pinning work and two moveable work tables.
Moonglade Music Studio
Moonglade is located in between the Commons and the pond. Included at Moonglade studio:

- 1 keyboard 61 key (M-Audio Keystation 61 II | 61-Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller with Pitch-Bend & Modulation Wheels)
- 1 mic stand
- 2 Rokit-6 speakers with stands

Outdoor Ceramic Studio
The Ceramics facilities are located in within the loafing shed outside of Sandhill studio. This is only available at certain times of year as it is and outdoor studio.

Loafing shed
The Loafing Shed is for woodworking and, as it is outdoors, it is only available at certain times of year.
