Jay A. Baker (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist enamored with place. Their work flows into three primary tributaries that heavily cross-pollinate: music/sound, collage/mixed-media, and projections/video. All Jay’s work aims to blur boundaries between people and place to build just equitable futures. The drive to be a keen observer, a helper, and to meaningfully engage with contexts, rituals, and people who care deeply, has led Jay through a highly interdisciplinary creative path. Their upbringing in Aguilar CO led to a music BA at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, followed by a deep immersion in the DIY arts scene in Albuquerque NM, an Environmental Arts & Humanities MA at Oregon State University, a changing climates residency at Santa Fe Arts Institute, and countless unique performances and projects under their own name and as Tom Foe. They’ve studied artsci work, qualitatively researched residency programs, and also held many working class jobs while continuing creative practice and have grown a particular attention to the mundane and mysterious forces that often guide our lives. Jay now calls Corvallis OR home, and is an active creative community member curating live performances at PreAtomic Records and serving on the Board of Directors for The Arts Center there while continuing to find new ways to expand and braid together their work.
