Marianne Barcellona grew up in Dallas, earned her B.A. from Oberlin College, and then moved to New York City, where for years she traveled the globe as a freelance editorial photographer on assignments for major magazines, cultural and humanitarian organizations and corporations. In the late 1990’s she earned a Certificate in Painting from the New York Studio School. Since then she has used her photography and painting as vehicles to register her own sense of being a witness to the mystery and beauty she has encountered. She loves travel, and her experiences of unfamiliar cultures and landscapes provide inspiration for her artwork. Barcelona has been awarded fellowships at ten artist residencies, and her work has been included in over 75 exhibitions.
