Nancy Watterson Scharf is a visual artist working primarily with painting media. She focuses on the limitations and nuances of perception. A native Oregonian, Nancy was raised on a farm near Salem and has spent her life living in rural areas of the state. Her keen interest in natural history is reflected in her work. She studied art at the University of Oregon where she earned a teaching degree in 1971. Formerly an art instructor in Central Oregon, she now lives near Elkton. Nancy began exhibiting in 1999. Since then she has shown her paintings in solo and juried exhibitions throughout Oregon and Washington. Her most recent exhibition, “Some Things Are True”, was in December 2023 at TAC in Corvallis. Nancy was awarded a Ford Family Foundation Oregon Visual Artist Mid-career Artist Residency at PLAYA in 2017, and was selected for a solo exhibition in the Governor’s Ceremonial Office by the Oregon Arts Commission. Her work is in the permanent collections of Southern Oregon University, the City of Portland, Mercy Medical Center and Umpqua Community College, among others.
